Halesworth Thoroughfare and smile, April 2021

In March 2021 Suffolk Artlink awarded me the Celebrating Us residency in Halesworth. This short-term residency aims to tackle loneliness in communities across Suffolk through creative and cultural activity.

My mission was to create a community video poem about the town, gathering content from locals and connecting with isolated individuals. I needed to collect lots of local stories, experiences and memories which I turned into one big video poem which is now available to watch online. The gathering of material for the poem was down in the following ways:

Creative Conversations

30/45 minute chats with isolated people about the town where they live, to generate lines for the 'Halesworth Whispers' poem.

Five short questions about the town – people dropped their answers off at the library.

 

Gatherers

I also had a small team of 'gatherers' who ask the HW questions to family, friends and neighbours.
